Hello,

My company follows the PF/ESI system. We have 2 interns in our company for 6 months. It is a paid internship, which means we will pay a salary/stipend of 5000/-.

Should I show them on my company's salary sheet? If I do show them, I will have to apply PF/ESI deductions. Or should I pay them separately, but we can't pay in cash.

What are the rules for paying interns?

Dear Monika,

You can classify them as interns and pay a stipend. This is to inform you that the stipend will not attract any PF or ESIC contribution. Also, ensure that all paperwork is up to date regarding their training, which may be requested by any inspection officer.
