Closing an ESIC Account for a Completed Project
We are a projects company with projects in different locations. Currently, in Gujarat, we have one project that has been completed, and all workers have left or resigned. The issue we are facing is that this project has an ESIC policy. How can I close the ESIC account for that project? Members, please reply. Thank you.
Important note: We do not have any other basic accounts for our other projects.

ESIC code is allotted to your company and not to any of the project sites, departments, or branches. Once this number is allotted, it lasts until the existence of the company. Therefore, you cannot close your ESI A/c. or code.
You need to inform the corporation that you do not have any coverable employees from this date onwards, and therefore no remittances are being made by you. You will start making remittances under the code once you have coverable employees.

In my opinion, in case the closure of the company/firm is permanent, you can submit a request to the appropriate Regional/Sub/Divisional Office of ESIC to which your unit was attached for the permanent closure of the Code Number.
In the letter to be written to the above authorities, you will be required to enclose copies of documents that may prove that the company/firm has actually been closed. Such copies of documents may include the disconnection order of the electric connection, sale of machinery, surrender of factory license, etc.
In the letter to be written, you may request the authorities to conduct an inspection of the records of your unit immediately and permanently close the said code number.

The query is not very clear. From what I understand, they undertake either civil or mechanical jobs at different locations and do not have a principal place of coverage. Compliance at the project location may have been established independently or through the principal employer.
If my presumptions are correct, then you need to notify the relevant authorities, i.e., the Regional Office / Branch Office, and arrange for a final inspection. For any other queries, you can reach us at [Phone Number Removed For Privacy Reasons] or email us at [Email Removed For Privacy Reasons].
