Hi All, we are a small company with 20 employees, 6 of whom are women. We are planning to set up some mandatory facilities or welfare initiatives for women. I need your help and suggestions on this.

Nice to know about your initiative regarding mandatory facilities or welfare provisions for women. If you are planning to do so, I would like to share that you can have the same team for another purpose named the "Internal Complaint Committee," as I am not sure if you are following this or not.

After the enforcement of the sexual harassment rules and laws at the workplace, it has been mandatory for every organization since 9th December 2013 to have an internal complaint committee to handle such activities. This will add to the organizational administrative culture and have a good impact among employees and others, showcasing our ethical and genuine business function.

Company's Internal Complaints Committee:

Basic Requirements:

• Presiding Officer: A senior-level female employee.

• At least 2 members from employees, preferably committed to the cause of women and having experience in social work or legal knowledge; we can select any 2 senior members.

• Note: The presiding officer and every member of the internal committee shall hold office for not more than 3 years from the date of nomination.

• 1 member from Non-Governmental Organizations or associations committed to the cause of women.

• Note: The NGO member appointed shall be paid fees or allowances for holding the proceedings of the internal committee by the employer.

• Note: At least half of the total members shall be women. The team needs to be of 6 members for convenience.

Local committees are to be set up at every branch and office of the organization (this format is for government organizations; we need to have a similar setup at our level too).

Local Committee: The local committee will have the same members.

Now, as per your requirement, you can have the following:

- Celebration of Women's Day and planning for it.
- Training for them: self-defense, skill enhancement.
- Creche (mostly in manufacturing units, but not sure of your business type).
- Separate room with facilities to lay down.
- Medical facility or counseling session for work-life balance.
- New Joinee guide.
- Separate washrooms (if possible).
- 5-15 minutes exercise session for relief and fitness.
- Few weekend games, meetings, etc.

Hope this can work for you. Wish you great success.

Regards,
Arvi
