Dear All, I have a doubt regarding PF. If a company has a PF number but, due to some problems, they did not operate for a few years and have recently restarted, what should we show to the PF department for the gap years? Is there a specific format or covering letter required? I am hopeful for a positive response from your side.

Company Closure vs. Production Stoppage

Was it a complete company closure or just a stoppage of production?

In the case of a complete closure, you need to register for a new PF Code. If it was a temporary stoppage of work, the company is considered to be in existence; hence, the PF code will remain unless it was officially closed.

That is, if during the stoppage the company closed the PF account, you will have to open a fresh account. If the previous account is not closed, it will continue with the same code.

If any company or establishment is temporarily closed due to any reason whatsoever, administrative charges of Rs 7/- monthly shall be paid for that period to the EPFO Authority to ensure the continuation of your EPF account.

Seniors' input on this matter is greatly appreciated.
