Dear Sir/Madam,
What is the difference between MBA distance education and regular college? Will there be any problems in the future with distance education? Nowadays, which type of education do employers in top IT companies prefer? I'm awaiting all your replies.
With hopes,
Abi :) :)

Dear Abirami,
The differences are:
- Full-time faculties/professors
- Facilities, atmosphere
- Mock sessions
- Exposure
- Ability to concentrate
While there are differences, I would not say that distance learning is not an option. It is better than many B-C grade institutes that have mushroomed in India. If you are already working, distance learning is a good option. Otherwise, I would suggest preparing for CAT, MAT, and other exams of repute to get admission to a good institute.
For recruitments, I don't think most IT companies look for any specific qualification. From my experience, I know of companies that hire graduates for recruitment/payroll kind of work.
So dear, it is purely up to you what kind of career you are interested in.
Cheers!!

Hi!
The basic and foremost difference between the two is the approach. One is classroom teaching, which includes case analysis, presentations, discussions, etc., properly guided and monitored by mentors. The other is self-study. Yes, you can definitely gain knowledge by reading books, but what about practical exposure?
A distance learning program is good for an executive working in the organization and seeking further career growth. However, for a fresher, I would certainly recommend a full-time campus-based program as it gives you ample opportunities to improve your skills and develop your personality.
Just judge which one would be suitable and go for it! Any further questions? Do contact me!
Cheers! Shringarika

Dear Shringarika / Archana,
Thanks for your valuable comment. However, I hope that distance education will suit me because I have been working in the HR field for the past 1.3 years.

For an MBA, you have the following options:
1. IIMs and similar institutions, which include XLRI, TISS (for HR), and a few more.
2. Top 30 ranked institutes.
3. Institutions ranked up to 100.
4. Other institutes.
5. Distance from IIMs/XLRI.
6. Distance from others.
The difference between correspondence and direct programs is that with direct exposure, you receive immediate correction and a more focused approach. There is healthy competition on campus, and you are exposed to the latest in Management. Additionally, practicing managers give lectures.
In correspondence programs, there is limited interaction. Many prefer direct MBAs for their organizations. While you can experience some growth with a distance program, you may encounter limitations in the future.

Dear Abirami,
Distance education courses or correspondence courses are welcome but not comparable. If you reflect on your past, you will notice the difference if you are truly pursuing a distance education course. Additionally, if you attend an interview, you will not receive similar evaluation either. Studying under a regular course will provide you with more competitive knowledge than distance education.
Lastly, every study outcome depends on how serious you are. If you want to learn, you can do so by any means.
Thanks,
M. Haque

Friend,
Talking about the ground reality, Distance Education is still not valued by corporations. If you can afford it, pursuing regular education is most advisable.
So, why choose Distance Education? Well, you can learn at your own pace and prepare for future studies! It teaches you discipline and self-management - two very important attributes for higher education.
I personally completed my Distance learning program to familiarize myself with the terminology used in MBAs, and now I am planning to pursue full-time education after my GMAT.
Thanks,
Yash

Hi,
Distance education is not treated on par with full-time programs. It only helps in certain cases - for example, someone who has been working in a company and has a good track record. The company may consider elevating this person to a higher position when they acquire a higher degree, even if it is through distance mode.
However, if you still choose, considering your circumstances, to pursue a course through distance education, please ensure that the course is recognized by the Distance Education Council.
