Back in my second year of college, I went for a one-day part-time factory job through an informal setup. It was never a formal employment contract—I didn’t receive any offer letter or salary, and I left the same day after informing the supervisor. To my surprise, I recently checked my EPFO records and found a contribution of Rs. 153 from that company, even though I was never paid. I am puzzled—how can they contribute to PF without any salary credited?

Now, this company has shut down permanently and cannot be contacted.

My Concerns:

1. Will this affect my future employment background checks (e.g., MNCs)?
2. How can I get this one-day PF record removed or declared invalid?
3. What steps can I take legally or through EPFO to rectify this?
4. Is there any affidavit or declaration I can submit in the absence of official documents?

Any advice from HR/legal experts or anyone with similar experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

It's quite unusual for an EPFO contribution to be recorded without any salary being credited. The EPFO is a government organization responsible for handling PF matters and they have strict guidelines for the same. However, as stated, since the company does not exist anymore, it makes things a bit complex but there are still ways to address this. Here are some steps you can take:

1. First and foremost, don't worry about future employment background checks. EPFO records are not typically part of background checks. Background checks are usually focused on your employment history, criminal record, and education verification.

2. In order to get this one-day PF record removed or declared invalid, you can contact the EPFO directly. You should be able to provide them with all the information they need to investigate and possibly rectify the situation. You can contact them through their website https://www.epfindia.gov.in or their toll-free number 1800 118 005.

3. When dealing with EPFO, be prepared to provide all the necessary details about the incident. This includes the name of the company, the date of the 'employment', and the amount credited to your PF. Explain the situation clearly and request them to rectify the erroneous record.

4. In the absence of official documents, you might be asked to provide a sworn affidavit stating the facts of the situation. It would be wise to consult with a legal expert before doing this to ensure you are not inadvertently implicating yourself in any wrongdoing.

Remember, this is not a common situation and might take some time to resolve. Patience and persistence will be key here. Good luck!
