I have been working in a college for more than a year and a half. In the last week of February, I decided to quit without informing them, which was a grave mistake on my part. However, I had completed all my duties and syllabus. After quitting, I also conducted some remaining and pending classes from my house, created question papers and internal marksheets, and submitted them duly. In March, I submitted my resignation letter, which they accepted. In May, they contacted me and cleared all my pending salary and settlements for which I am grateful.

My concern is whether I will be eligible to apply for an experience letter. I did not inform them despite their attempts to contact me to rejoin the college, to which I did not respond. There was no signed contract stipulating a notice period. They have cleared all my salary and dues. Under these circumstances, will I be eligible to apply for an experience letter without any mention of my absence? I completed all pending tasks from home and submitted everything dutifully. I acknowledge my mistake in not informing them about my resignation. Please advise me on my eligibility for a proper experience certificate. Thank you.

This is on the presumption that following your absence in February, the employer did not terminate your services.

Your absence in February stands condoned as you had resumed duty and completed all formalities for being properly relieved, and there is a proper final settlement. Though the college issued you communication to resume duty, they did not precipitate it into termination of service. So, in the final analysis, your absence did not lead to the conclusion of voluntary abandonment, and the termination of service is on acceptance of resignation. You can seek an experience letter, and in all probability, you will get a certificate that you can proudly show to others.

Thank you very much for your prompt explanation. Your response has been coherently explained with implicit elaboration. Much appreciated.

I shall soon be applying for an experience letter from the organization.

Thank you again.
