I joined a company with a 3-year agreement. However, three days after signing the bond, I wanted to quit due to sudden changes in personal life issues. What problems might I face in this situation? The employer is forcing me to pay money, or else they will take legal action. Kindly advise on this.

Once you sign the bond after joining the services, you are bound by the bond conditions thereafter, irrespective of the duration of time that has elapsed. However, the amount of liquidated damages claimed by the employer can be questioned depending on the investment of time and money incurred by the employer on training, etc.

Hi Purushotham, A - You haven't mentioned what exactly was the problem that led you to leave the company after 3 days.

Doubts from Day 1
B - If you had doubts from Day 1, then you should not have signed the bond and joined the company.

Purpose of Employment Bonds
C - The reason companies keep such bonds is to ensure that employees who join do not leave the job. In your case, it was for 3 years, and you should have respected the bond properly and asked for leave for a few days if the personal issue was significant. I am sure the company would have allowed you to take a short leave and then return, considering it was only 3 days.

Consequences of Breaking the Bond
D - Now that you have broken the bond, you may be liable for legal action if the company decides to pursue it.
