I am working as a soft skills trainer and placement officer in a private college affiliated with a government university. I have completed almost 7 months there, and the work is going well. I joined in September 2017 and found out about my pregnancy. I need to travel almost 2 hours one way to reach the college, which is on a very bumpy road. Therefore, to avoid so much travel, I decided to stay in the hostel 3-4 days a week and travel home for 2-3 days. Now, I have started my 8th month. I need to inform my employer about my maternity leave.

Eligibility for Paid Maternity Leave

Please advise me if I am eligible for paid maternity leave or what other options are available.

Communicating with a Difficult Director

Also, the director of my college, whom I need to inform, is very rude and does not listen to problems and speaks insensitively. Please let me know what to do.

Please inform HR about your condition in writing. There are forms prescribed by the Act. https://banyanhr.com/DOWNLOADS/LABOU...IT%20RULES.pdf

What if my boss gives me a hard time?

The law protects your rights during pregnancy, including protection against unfair treatment or discrimination. It's worth making sure that you know what your rights are. Please remember the law is with you. Be polite, humble, but assertive in expressing your medical needs and requesting leave. Take due care. All the best.
