Hi,

I worked in a garments company in Chennai and resigned in April 2017. I emailed the company requesting a gratuity cheque and authorized a person to collect it on my behalf as I am currently working out of town. However, they have informed me that the gratuity cheque must be signed for and received in person. Could you please advise if there are any alternative options available for receiving the cheque? Your help is much appreciated.

Thank you.

Dear Antony,

Your gratuity cheque can be deposited into your SB account by the employer. You can ask for NEFT payment of gratuity. Alternatively, you can ask the employer to send it by registered post to your present address. It is not necessary that you have to personally visit your ex-employer's office to collect your gratuity cheque.

Belated payment of gratuity attracts a 10% interest. Please take up the matter in writing with your ex-employer immediately.
