Dear Seniors,

We are using a Lifting Hook in the Storage Bin, cell, and fabricated chimney for material lifting, shifting, and erection purposes using Hydra and Cranes on various projects. I would like to know how to calculate the load limit for the Lifting Hook based on the weight.

Example Calculation:

(Storage Bin)
Weight - 5.5 Tons
Diameter - 5.8 Meters
Height - 3 Meters
Lifting hooks required - 4

* I require details of the Lifting Hook for safe lifting.

Thank you.

Appreciate your posting. Even I am not exactly aware of how to calculate the hook dimensions. During a discussion with one of my colleagues who works with one of the leading engineering companies, he mentioned that they are using software for this purpose. You just need to enter the dimensions of the piece to be lifted, and then the software provides the output of the dimensions to be measured for the hook. This software will also tell you the center of gravity of the load to be lifted and exactly where to place the hook.

I would expect more participation in this thread to learn more.
