Hi friends,

Our company designations are changing. I have been offered the position of Area Sales Manager or Senior Sales Manager. My current designation is Sales Manager. I am unsure which one to choose. Can you please advise me on which one is better?

Hello Harshit,

Sales Manager or Sr. Sales Manager are typically corporate-level positions, while Area/Regional Sales Manager are typically field-level designations. Hope you can now make your choice.

I am sure TS is right. However, I would like to make a comment. These designations may mean different things in different firms. For example, when I worked in India in a Govt. Defence Establishment, the designations went in this order: Supervisor I, II, III; Charge hand I and II, Assistant Foreman, Foreman, then Officer Grades. A supervisor from our establishment applied for a Foreman's job in another Govt establishment only to find at the time of the interview that the Foreman's grade there was lower than the Supervisor grade.

Sir,

It is your company, and you are the employee; you should know the nature of responsibilities under these two designations. An Area Manager is restricted to one area only, whereas a Senior Manager means you are overseeing all the Area Managers. I am emphasizing again that you should understand the responsibilities of both designations as per your company's staff chart.

All the best,
