It sets the precedent for the making of an unaccountable 'council of guardians' something like the institution of the 'Velayat e Faqih' – a self-selected body of clerics – in Iran who act as a super-state body, unrestrained by any democratic norms or procedures. I do not understand what qualifies Lata Mangeshkar and V.S. Naipaul (whose deeply reactionary views are well known) to take decisions about the future of all those who live in India."
