First of all, you must know the purpose for which you need a job description. Generally, in most Indian companies, job descriptions are written to justify employees' positions and salaries. However, there is often no proper connection established between the job description and salary, or in other words, no mechanism is used to define the job description.
A job description is a tool that results from the job analysis exercise, and you have to conduct interviews and prepare questionnaires for each position. Then, decide on the number of factors that you feel are appropriate for compensation and will be the factors considered for compensation.
For example:
ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
Job Family: Administration
Department: XYZ
Group/Division: Group or Division
PRINCIPAL CONTACTS
1. Reports to: His Boss
2. Responsible for: List of people he is responsible for, or None
Other Links: All levels throughout
General Summary
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
PHYSICAL EFFORT & WORK ENVIRONMENT
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
You have to decide on the number of factors to determine the distribution of points for job weightages, etc., for job evaluations based on these factors to evaluate the relevant market worth of the job to determine compensation and place it within the appropriate salary grade.
