Dear Friends,

We have planned to conduct a full-fledged induction program in our organization from Nov 08. Ours is a small company with a total employee strength of 250, and we will have around 10-12 new joiners every month.

The management has asked me to conduct the induction for at least two days. I have already prepared the schedule, which includes sessions for team building, personality development, and guest lectures (tech and sales-related). I am planning to invite a third-party organization to handle these sessions.

Is this a good idea? Please suggest some ideas to keep the new joiners engaged and make the session more interesting. What else could be done or is usually done?

Looking forward to your suggestions.

Thanks and Regards,
Sharmila

Hi Sharmila,

It's good that you have planned an induction program for all the new joiners. You can prepare a PowerPoint presentation including all your company details, policies, and any unique features/policies in favor of employees. Also, during the induction program breaks, some senior professionals can come to share their experiences with the company, what they have learned, or their findings.

Thanks,

Thank you, Seema and Nishu, for the valuable suggestions.

Seema: Could you please let me know what exactly an orientation program is?

Nishu: I have already prepared the presentation, but your suggestion of senior people sharing their experiences and learnings is very good; I will work on it. Thanks again.

Hi,

Please include in your schedule the introduction of new joiners to the people they may have to interact with from day one. The more, the better. One way could be to have an informal meeting involving the top 30-40 people of your company, where these individuals are formally introduced. A few words from your Company Head welcoming these individuals at this gathering will go a long way in helping them feel part of the team right from the start.

Lastly, induction is best conducted by the company's own people, as they can showcase their passion and commitment, unlike an outside agency.

Enjoy your task.

Dear Sharmila,

You can include departmental induction, i.e., in this, each departmental representative will come and explain the hierarchy, functions, and their coordination with other departments. They can also share important numbers and email IDs to help develop a comfort zone for the new joiners so they can become familiar with the key people in various departments.

Additionally, you can take them on a virtual tour of your organization to show the location of various departments and introduce them to other employees.

Hope this will help you.
