dear sweety,

this is Rahal Rana, i've +5 yrs experience in hr (recruitment & generalist), started my career as recruiter then shifted to generalist, now i am taking care of both the profile independently. even when i was went for generalist, the interviewer asked me same thing that why I want shift from recruitment to generalist? then i answered him that recruitment is small part of HR and i want to gain experience in HR's each & every field like attendance, payroll, statuary, legal matters, IR, letter formation, so this is basic reason for shifting or its not kind of shifting because weather i am in recruitment or generalist, my profile is count in HR field only.

so according to my knowledge you reply to your interviewer the same thing, because you've great experience in generalist but recruitment is that part of HR where you actually search the best talent for your employer.

hope you got our answer or if any doubts write me on

with best regards,

Rahul Rana

As told by me earlier also usually pple shift from recruitment to generalist profile.
As such there is no problem in shifting but it just restricks you into one particular role of HR whereas in generalist you are exposed to all the aspects of HR including recruitment.
