Hi Rupa,

For Karnataka, the professional tax slabs are as follows:

- 0 - 9999: no tax
- 10000 - 14999: 150
- 15000 and above: 200

Furthermore, I am attaching the Excel format of FORM 5A. Just enter the number of employees of a particular category and the cheque details so you will get the filled form of FORM 5A.

Cheers,
Jeeva

Hi Antony,

Your Excel attachment is good. Please make the correction in that. Murugesh is asking for the PT slab for Tamil Nadu, which you had sent for Karnataka. Moreover, the PT slab in Karnataka was revised.

The range 3000 - 5000 is not taxable since April 2008. Now, from 0 to 9999/-, there is no PT. The current slab is as follows:
- 10000/- to 14999/- is 150
- 15000 and above is 200

This slab has been effective since April 2009.

Cheerz,
Jeeva

Hi All,

I would like to share this piece of information that we have implemented in our company. The Tamil Nadu Government has increased the Professional Tax from Rs. 810 to Rs. 1095, effective from 1st October 2008. According to the revised structure, an amount of Rs. 1380 will have to be deducted from employees' salaries, which includes arrears of Rs. 285 for the half-yearly period of October 2008 to March 2009, along with Rs. 1095 for the current year (1095 + 285 = 1380).

Our company will be deducting the Professional Tax in the September payroll.

Thanks and regards,
Nesha
