Hi, I am a student of full-time PGDBM (first year) at Jagan Institute Of Management Studies, a reputed institute in Delhi. I am in a dilemma whether I should opt for HR as a major specialization. The placement scenario seems to be pathetic. However, I am deeply interested in choosing HR as my career. Is it really worth pursuing HR in the present circumstances in the national market?

Kindly suggest.

Hi,

In fact, the market has improved for HR nowadays, and a lot of companies are looking for HR professionals. If you look back to around 2000-2003, the market for HR was not that strong. Moreover, many retail companies are entering India, creating numerous HR opportunities. The construction and manufacturing sectors are also experiencing growth. Therefore, I believe the HR boom will continue for at least another 3-4 years. The rest is up to you to decide, so I recommend conducting market research. Best of luck!

Regards,

Hi,

The HR industry has grown nowadays, and to be frank, as a starting point for the first two years, you won't be paid much. However, after two years with your experience, there is a lot of demand for quality HR professionals, and they are highly paid.

Well, one more school of thought: "There are some things which money can't buy, but for everything else, there is Mastercard!"

And last but not least, if it's your passion, go with it!
