Hi,

I am new to this forum, and I want the help of all CiteHR members. I am currently working in a consultancy and want to transition into a generalist profile. However, my background is primarily in hardcore recruitment, and I lack knowledge on how to tailor my experience for a generalist role to attract interview calls. I have completed my PGDBA in HR and operations. What should I include in my resume to increase the chances of receiving calls from companies?

Nisha

If you are looking for a generalist profile, then you have to be involved in the following responsibilities:

Human Resource Planning and Management (where you will be responsible for making policy formats, manuals, etc.)

Recruitment and Selection (all recruitment processes from beginning to end, like sourcing CVs, screening, interview calling, selection, joining formalities, etc.)

Compensation and Benefits (salary, wages of employees, and other benefits)

Training & Development (all training activities such as TNI, Training calendar, Training implementation, Training evaluation, etc.)

Performance Management System (JD, KRA Setting, KPI, Performance evaluation)

Employee Retention

Legal compliances like PF, ESIC, Gratuity

Hope this helps you.

Hi Abhishek,

Thanks for your reply, but tell me one thing. I don't have any knowledge of HR generalist roles, like KRA. I only know about PF, ESI, and gratuity calculation. How can I include all these things in my resume when I don't know much about them?

You are welcome.

Hey, you can't mention these if you don't have any experience. So first, gain the experience. You should be curious to learn about these things and slowly involve yourself in these profiles. To be a good generalist, you should have at least 3 to 4 years of experience, in my opinion.

Hi Abhishek,

Okay, I can't mention all these things in my profile. But what if I have knowledge about all these things and no experience? Should I mention? Tell me about this. In Chandigarh, there is no scope for an HR generalist profile! Guide me on this now!

Hi Nisha,

First, acquire theoretical knowledge as it will assist you during the interview and demonstrate your interest in the Genetics profile. Express your enthusiasm for the position and convey that you will give your best if provided with the opportunity.

Dear Devesh,

Thanks, I have given many interviews and I am even informing them that I am interested in a generalist profile. However, wherever I am going, they are saying they need a person who has experience in a generalist profile. They will consider those people. I have experience in recruitments only, and I cannot mention about the generalist profile in my resume because I do not have practical knowledge. Whatever I am learning, I am learning from this site only. What should I mention in my CV so that I will get openings in a generalist profile?

Hi Nisha,

I agree with you that due to economic slowdown, jobs are scarce, but recruitment is still ongoing in India. The difference is that only the best candidates are selected because employers have a large pool of candidates to choose from. Therefore, job seekers' strategy should be to strive to become the best.

Writing a winning CV is not as tough as you might think, as long as you know the basic rules. We invited readers to send in their CVs, which were analyzed by HR trainer and CV expert Kshipra Singh. Among the numerous responses we received was GA reader Shruti Jain's CV. Here we present her CV along with an analysis and an edited version.

Hi,

I was told that as a fresher, it's not right to enter into recruitment as one may not be able to have a good career path. Is it true? Is there any particular domain in HR to enter as a fresher? Taking the recession into consideration, should we take up any HR job that comes our way?

Hi Nisha,

You are right; due to the recession, there are no calls at all. It is also true that without experience, you will not be considered for an HR Generalist profile. But keep on trying; you will get an opportunity, and don't miss it. All the best.
