Dear Sanjeev,
Now it is advisable to go in for ISO 9001:2008 version, which has been in effect since mid-November 2008. It would cover everyone from the chairman to the doorman, except for the accounts or finance departments. The chapters will inquire whether you have a system in place covering all activities, and it is necessary to document how you are performing these activities in a manual and corresponding flow sheets or procedures. It is simple. There are a number of auditing firms that conduct certification audits and recommend certification if found acceptable, without major non-conformances. If you are located in Mumbai, I would be in a position to assist you, as we are one of the leading consultants for ISO and related management systems.

Dear Sanjeev,
There are many authorized certification bodies like BVQI and DNV. You have to seek their help in getting your organization certified. Before going in for certification, you have to frame organizational objectives and department objectives, and also the department procedures which you would like to follow to achieve the department objectives.
Based on your requirements and ease of operations, you can prepare procedures for different departments. The main aim is that all employees speak the same language, and every single employee is aware of their department procedures.
Once this is in place, a Management Representative should be appointed. They will verify whether the procedures are being followed by the organization by conducting Internal Audits through internal auditors (You have to identify employees and give them training on Internal audit).
Then the certification body will initially check the procedures in relation to the operation and give their recommendation. This is called the certification audit, and from there on, every year they will do periodic audits on the effectiveness of the system.
Hope it is clear to you. If you require any additional information, please let me know.
Regards,
Suresh

Dear Sanjeev,
First, identify a management representative from your company who will be the one-point source of contact for all ISO-related issues. You will have to formulate a quality policy and statement followed by a quality manual, which will be the reference for your organization on all quality matters. It is advisable to talk to an ISO consultant who will guide you through the steps before a final audit by a certifying body like BVQI, TUV, etc.
