I have been assigned to make the suggestion scheme more fruitful and enthusiastic among the employees. How can we make it more interesting so that employee participation increases? Also, can we announce the benefits and rewards associated with it or set targets per employee/department?

Hi,
I hope you already have the following fundamentals in place:
1) SOP for the Suggestion system - It is a flow chart that explains the flow of the receipt of suggestions to implementation and rewards (includes criteria, scope, definition, etc.).
2) A steering committee for timely review and approve/reject the suggestions.
3) Reward & Recognition for the best suggestions.
To improve effectiveness, I suggest the following:
1) Introduce targets for each department (function) - Suggestions per employee per month.
2) Think about introducing rewards for the following:
a) Award for the Best suggestions in each area - Productivity, Quality, Cost reduction, Safety, Delivery, and Morale.
b) Highly innovative suggestions.
c) Points system where each suggestion gets some points; employees can accumulate points and exchange them for gift vouchers.
4) Organize Quarterly Kaizen (Continual improvement) celebration day as a forum for sharing the best suggestions & recognitions.
Don't forget - Reward only implemented suggestions; otherwise, you will get into trouble!!!
