Dear Members,

I have come across a problem - A person joined as an LDC on 21st Jan 1982 at the scale of Rs. 290/- per month. He retired on 6th May 2005 from a senior post and was drawing a salary of Rs. 22,000/-. How much gratuity will he receive? No other clues (regarding DA or anything else) are available. How do I calculate this, and what would be the amount? Please help.

Thank you.

Gratuity is calculated based on the following formula:
Gratuity = (last basic) x 15 days x (number of years of continuous service) / 26

Conditions:
1. The individual must work for at least 5 years.
2. Only the last basic salary will be considered for calculation.
3. Please verify if it is the consolidated salary or if there is any basic component in the salary. Otherwise, the amount of Rs 22,000/- will be taken as the basic salary.

Hope this information is helpful.

Dear Friend,

Mr. Subhabrata has provided you with all the necessary information. I have attached two files; one contains instructions on how to calculate Gratuity (included in both sheets), and the other is related to the Gratuity Act. I hope this will be helpful for you.

Dear Mr. Amit Murthy,

I was just going through your document on the calculation of Gratuity Amount. I would like to know why there was no DA included for the calculation. Have you forgotten to add it, or is it not mandatory on the part of the company to include DA?

Dear All, I want to point out one thing. Gratuity is not calculated on basic only but it is calculated on PF salary which is basic plus DA.
