You don't need to start a legal firm; you just decided you wanted to. Plenty of legal firms already exist that can deal with your problems, and at far less cost than setting up a business.

If you want to start a legal firm:

1. Go and work for a legal firm for 2 or 3 years and see how they operate, how they do things, and what is involved.

2. Work out what it is going to cost to set up a legal firm, including office accommodation, wages for lawyers and ancillary staff, advertising, and promotion to get customers, etc. The cost may surprise you, especially if you think you can do this with no money.

3. Work out how much your yearly living costs are so that you can support yourself for at least 12-24 months with no income from a job. A new business will not make a profit for quite some time.

4. Start writing a comprehensive business plan with a SWOT analysis to prove the viability of your idea.

5. Remember the Golden Rule - Failure to Plan is Planning to Fail.

I guess you are a qualified lawyer and advocate. If yes, you should have completed the essential internship in a law firm or under a senior advocate practicing the legal profession. If so, then you won't need our guidance. However, the main requirements are: You should have passed a basic UG/PG degree and LL.B. from a recognized law college or university. Thereafter, complete the internship and clear the exam conducted by the Bar Council of India (AIBE).

To become a lawyer, candidates must meet eligibility criteria:

1) Educational Qualifications: Candidates must have completed higher secondary education (10+2) from a recognized board in any stream (Arts, Science, or Commerce).

2) Entrance Examinations: To gain admission to law schools, candidates must clear entrance examinations such as the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), All India Law Entrance Test (AILET), or Law School Admission Test (LSAT).

It's a long-drawn process now. To set up a firm of advocates, the respective state's Bar Council has laid down certain stipulations and procedures which have to be complied with.
