Local authority refers to civic administrative bodies such as Panchayat, Municipality, Municipal Corporation, etc. The term "Local authority" finds a place in clause (iii) of section 2(e) of the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, in the context of the definition of the term "employer." When any employment under any such local body is brought under the schedule of the MWA, 1948, normally the person appointed by such a body as the Chief Executive Officer would be the employer for the purposes of the Act.
