As per Factories Act 1948, the limit of overtime is set as 50 hours in a quarter, which can be relaxed to 75 hours by the Chief Inspector of Factories. There is a proposal to increase the limit to 75 and 100 hours respectively, which is yet to be notified.

The Factories Act 1948 has set the limit of overtime at 12 hours in a week and 50 hours in a quarter. This can be extended up to 75 hours, provided the proposal of the factory to get it approved by the Chief Inspector of Factories for a reasonable factor for a sanctioned period to meet the exigency nature of work.
