Can one do two jobs simultaneously in India? Actually, I have been working with a private company and under probation period. In between, I got a better opportunity from a Government of India job. Now, I want to join the government job for 15 days by providing a medical certificate to my private company HR. Then, after 15 days, I will come back to my private job and continue for two months till the end of my probation period. In between, I will provide a medical certificate to the government job. After two months, I will leave the private job and will continue my career as a government employee. Is there any problem? Because I have heard that government employees can take leave up to six months by producing a medical certificate. Moreover, government jobs can never be lost, isn't it? So, can I continue two full-time jobs for two or three months like this? Please help me in this regard.

Dear Jessica,
One cannot ride two horses simultaneously. Similarly, without terminating the contract of employment, you cannot switch jobs in between. Employment means being at the disposal of the employer for hire or reward with an impliedly continuous relationship. So dual employment is strictly prohibited.
The provision of leave on medical grounds is to enable a regular employee to recover from any physical ailments caused by disease or other external reasons like accidents, etc., without loss of earnings for a certain period based on the length of service. If any doubt arises, the employer can subject you to a re-diagnosis by a medical board. Therefore, you cannot deceive two employers by providing false medical certificates obtained through trickery with the doctor or with their active connivance. If the fact of your dual employment comes to the knowledge of any one employer, you may lose both jobs. Moreover, such thoughts and practices are certainly immoral and unethical.
