Hi, I am Gaya, and I have recently been appointed as an Executive HR in a 4-star hotel. Can you all please help me understand the roles and responsibilities? Unfortunately, there is no Senior HR Manager to guide me here. My reporting manager is the GM, and when I seek help, he mentions being unaware of HR areas and responsibilities, often stating that I am hired to manage this area. I am starting to feel that I may have chosen the wrong job since there is no HR Manager present.
Seniors, please assist me. I would be grateful for your support.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Gaya,
Don't think that you have chosen the wrong job. Of course, it's quite difficult to work with no guidance, especially for people who don't have any experience. However, you can still take it as a challenge and prove that you are the right person for the job.
First of all, please share your job description. Based on that, you will receive good responses. If you don't have a job description, discuss with the managing director and ask for guidance on what to do.

Hi Mr. NATHRAO,
Prior to this, I was working as an HR generalist, and I used to take care of all the areas you have mentioned above. However, when I joined here, the GM told me that I should be taking care of all the areas here as well. Unfortunately, he is not allowing me to look after them, and I don't know why. Additionally, when I asked him about the company policy, he hasn't shared it with me until now.
But, thanks to CiteHR, where I can share my queries and where you seniors help us to overcome these challenges.

Prior to this, I was working as an HR generalist for 2 years. When I was interviewed, I mentioned my profile to them. They told me that I should be taking care of everything except payroll, which the accounts department handles. They also wanted me to design the job descriptions for all departments. When I informed the GM that the appointment must cover some policies, he said they were okay with the format.
Sometimes, I feel blank, not knowing what is going on. Thanks to CiteHR, where I can share my queries and where seniors help us out. Thank you so much for the help.
Regards.

"When I joined here, the GM told me that I should be taking care of all the areas here as well, but he is not allowing me to look after it."
The GM is contradicting himself when he says to look after the area but then does not let you do it. Seek a meeting with the GM to gain clarity. Before that, ensure you are fully informed about the hotel industry laws relevant to it from an HR angle, including shortfalls in manning, security, fire precautions, etc. Provide him with a proper PowerPoint presentation highlighting strengths, weaknesses, and solutions that you feel are appropriate.
Confusion in your roles could create problems for the hotel in its functional side. Move quickly to clarify and obtain clear expectations. Prepare a job description for yourself that is current and valid for your role in the hotel industry and ask for approval.
