Dear All, i would like to know that, can any employee take Sick Leave in advance, i.e. if any employee would like to proceed SL in advance, the employee can take in advance or not.

logically you are wrong. how can you can predict your sickness. in some companies they will not sanction sick leave in advance as the type of leave requires only information over phone or mail.

Dear Brijlal,

It is a totally illogical thing. How could you predict the future that you are going to be ill on such and such a date? The sick leave can only be availed after taking leave, not before or in advance. You should inform about the leave on the same day or one day before, not after taking the leave.

If an operation is scheduled after 10-15 days on any specific day/s then what leave he/she should apply for..

Probably he means, whether the employee can avail SL against future accrual ( not having SL balance on the date of availing leave)

Unpredictable Illness vs. Planned Medical Procedures

It is true that you cannot predict illnesses in advance, such as the flu, accidents, a broken arm, appendicitis, etc., as these are random occurrences that can happen at any time of day or night.

However, if you have an ongoing condition, your doctor may decide that you need an operation to rectify the problem. In that case, you can ask for sick leave in advance. You will know for certain when you are going to the hospital and will have an approximate idea of the time you will need for the hospital stay and recuperation.
