Hi,
I am a Software Engineer with around 5 years of experience in the IT industry. I am planning to pursue an MBA course now. Can anyone suggest the best university that offers a good MBA course through distance education? Also, what is the best specialization for me with this experience? When I checked online, there were so many specializations within an MBA that I am literally confused.
Please help me out.
Thanks,
Surya

Hi Friend,
Great you are thinking about pursuing an MBA after gaining good experience in IT. For correspondence courses, you can check IGNOU, SYMBIOSIS, or many more, but these are good options. One thing I want to suggest to you is, why not try for an Executive MBA program from IIMs, IBS, or any of the leading institutes providing EXE-MBA programs. If you do that, you will have a great career afterward.
Now, coming to the point, you are an IT guy. You can specialize in International Business, Marketing Management, IT, Systems, as well as HR. In marketing, you can land a good job in an IT company, with your role involving the marketing of software products of IT companies either in India or abroad. If you choose HR, it will help you learn how to manage highly technical people in IT companies, which is a significant challenge for HR nowadays.
But think about where your interests lie; the rest depends on destiny.
Best of luck.

Dear Friend,
It's better to choose a specialization based on your Bachelor's degree. For example, if you specialized in Computer Science in your BE, then it's best to choose Systems/information technology as a specialization in your MBA. I believe that a Bachelor's degree should be supportive of a Master's degree so that your Bachelor's degree carries weight.

I have over 4 years of experience in the IT industry as a software developer. I initially intended to pursue an MBA soon after completing my B.E. However, I believed it would be beneficial to gain some hands-on experience first. Therefore, I decided to work, and now I have completed 4 years in the field.
Confusion About MBA Specializations
I am interested in pursuing an MBA, but after conducting thorough research, I find myself confused about the following disciplines:
1) Supply Chain Management
2) Aviation Management
3) Airport and Airline Management
4) Petroleum Management
I would appreciate your advice. I am planning to pursue my MBA through correspondence only.
Thank you.
