Hi Avijit,

I am currently working as an Area Sales Manager, or first-line manager, in a pharmaceutical company. In all the interviews I have attended, there is one question that always troubles me: what is the role or job function of a first-line manager, and what are the frequently asked questions in interviews regarding this position? I would appreciate your help in this regard.

Dear Mr. Avijit,

I am providing below a brief outline of the role of ASM in the Pharma Industry.

ASM is in charge of the territory, and under him, there are 4-5 medical representatives. He is responsible for the performance of the territory as well as his team. His main roles are as follows:

1. Revenue generation
2. Target achievement
3. Developing team members
4. Company's representative at the HQ
5. Exploring new territories
6. Motivator
7. Customer relationship builder
8. Brand builder

I hope I have clarified the role of an ASM for you.

Regarding interview questions, the following are commonly asked:

1. About the role
2. Strategy for introducing a new product in the territory
3. How to address an MR who is not following the action plan or not sending reports
4. How to motivate a medical representative to perform well
5. How to improve a medical rep who is not achieving targets for several months

These are some of the frequently asked questions in interviews.
