I have a query regarding the deduction of P. Tax. If X's gross salary is Rs. 7500/- but they joined in the middle of the month and earned a salary below Rs. 5000/-, what should I do? Is a deduction of Rs. 175 correct or not?

Thanks in advance.

If an employee's total earnings are less than 5000, then PTAX should not be deducted. Employee joining does not matter in this scenario. However, if an employee joins in the middle of the month and their total earnings exceed 5000, then they are eligible for PT deductions.

As mentioned by Ravi, professional tax is always applicable on the monthly earned wages. For example, if an employee's monthly salary is ₹40,000 and they earned ₹4,000 in any month, then no deduction is applicable for that specific month.
