I have recently appeared for my TYBCOM exams, and I wish for a good career in the HR field. I wanted to know, is it necessary to do an MBA in HR, or is there any other single course for getting into HR (which will be less expensive than an MBA)? Also, if there is any single course, will it be of less value than an MBA? Please help me solve my query, and you can also tell me some information for a great start in HR. Thank you.

Hi, When you are interested to do your career in Hr then you should go with MBA-HR, Accept that there is no single course will make you perfect in HR Field.

It is good to see an HR enthusiast out there. Does your college provide campus placements for BCOM students? If yes, can you find any HR openings among the companies that visit your campus?

The Reality of Pursuing an MBA in HR

I am sorry to bust the myth, but doing an MBA in HR is not the sure-shot way of getting into the HR field nowadays. Remember, the HR department in any company is a smaller one. As a result, HR professionals constitute only a fraction of the total workforce compared to sales or finance employees. In such a scenario, finding HR jobs, especially in such dismal economic conditions, can be difficult.

Current Recruitment Trends

The irony here is that companies are recruiting either complete freshers like BCOM/BSc graduates or MBA students from top institutes only (such as TISS, XLRI, IIM, and a couple more). Hence, an MBA in HR from any ABC college may not, rather will not guarantee entry into the field of HR, an entry that will be monetarily, intellectually, and socially satisfying.

You are better off being a BCOM pass-out and looking for jobs that will widen your chances to other non-HR fields as well.

My motive behind this post is not to scare you off but to give the most honest and clear picture of where things stand.

Dear Prith, nowadays, a degree is the only entrance into any organization. An MBA in HR is most preferable for you if you want to spend less on the course. You can also join MPA (Master of Public Administration) - HR from VNSGU, Surat, Gujarat. The university offers hostel facilities as well. If you aim to build a career in HR, you must complete a 2-year full-time HR study program. The fees are only ₹1905 for girls and ₹2415 for boys. Practical knowledge will certainly benefit you. Pursuing an MBA, diploma, or Master's in Industrial Relations, or any related course, will help you build a career in HR. Even if you are unable to pursue an MBA due to financial constraints, consider opting for a 1-year diploma course instead.
