I was a Non-IT Recruiter at a leading company. I resigned from the job due to some problems. Since then, I have been searching for a job. I have found many vacancies for domestic/US/UK recruiters in IT, but the companies are not shortlisting my profile due to lack of experience in IT recruitment. I have 3 years of experience in Non-IT recruitment. My qualifications include a BBA and an MBA in HR.

Seeking Guidance on IT Recruitment Transition

Can anyone help me? What is IT recruitment? What do I need to learn for IT recruitment? Do I need to learn programs like Java, .Net, Linux, etc.?

Please, I am expecting your answer for my growth.

Understanding IT Recruitment

IT recruitment is very different from non-IT recruitment. You don't need to know programming languages yourself, but you need to have a very good awareness of different languages, technologies, and applications, their availability, demand, supply in the market, and salary scales for different technologies.

IT professionals are very particular about the technologies they work with and sometimes even assign a status to particular technologies. This makes the recruiter's job very difficult, especially if the company does not work with the latest versions of a technology.

In IT, it is extremely difficult to switch between technologies, so the talent pool gets limited.

The main reason a recruiter should have an IT background is that there are a lot of fake or under-experienced candidates who apply for IT jobs. If the recruiter cannot spot such imposters, then it's a serious problem for the company.

If the recruiter has good exposure to various technologies, then he/she can judge the candidate's capability and fit accurately.

These are only a few points; there are many more aspects to IT recruitment, but I hope this has helped answer your query.

I would advise you to approach a computer training institute and ask them to help you understand the basics of IT, various technologies, programming languages, applications, ERPs, etc. IT is very vast, and I regret that I cannot help much with this myself.
