Amendments to the Workmen's Compensation Act 1923

Please note the following points. I hope these will satisfy your queries:

• In the year 2009, the Workmen's Compensation Act 1923 was amended. Wherever "Workman" or "workmen" is mentioned in the entire act, it should be read as "Employee."

• As per Sec 1(3), all employees, irrespective of their status or salaries, whether directly employed, through a contractor, or required to work abroad, will be covered under the act.

• Since he died at the age of 28 and the maximum limit is Rs. 8000/-, his compensation amount will be Rs. 847,160 + 5000 (for funeral expenses) = Rs. 852,160/-
