Business Development in Architecture

I am working for an architecture company that specializes in commercial architecture. I need your help as we are looking for a Business Development Manager. The major question is: does an architecture company need someone for business development? However, my management believes that I have to do so.

Key Considerations for Recruitment

What points should be kept in mind while recruiting the right person for this role? What qualifications should a candidate possess?

I agree with whatever you said. However, our manager advised me to look for someone with a pleasant personality who is good at presentations. Ideally, this person would have a background in airlines or media, possess knowledge of corporate sales, and be interested in selling our services.

Approach to Finding the Right Candidate

So, in order to find such a person, what can be done? What approach can I adopt?

Thank you.

Importance of Industry-Specific Background for Business Development

The Business Development Manager or Marketing person should have the same background in Architecture for technical presentations. Individuals from other sectors, such as aviation or media, may not possess the expertise in architecture.

I agree with the views expressed by Mr. Manish and Mr. Pon. A pleasant personality and good presentation skills are essentially a part of soft skills. The base has to be architecture to explain the nuances to the client.
