Hi Team, please suggest how to handle the situation when a candidate takes the offer letter and on the last day calls to inform that they are not joining. Recently, we faced a situation where a person named Vedpal from Bangalore informed us on the last day that he is not joining. They may use this offer letter for bargaining purposes in their company or for a counteroffer.

This is the most common problem that a recruiter faces. Some of the steps you can take are as follows:
1. Try to negotiate the notice period rather than giving a month's time.
2. If possible, remove the compensation clause from the offer letter since this will reduce resign and renegotiate instances.
3. Give more offers personally rather than sending them via email, as this will help you study the candidate's body language and interest level.
4. Add a clause that the offer will automatically terminate if you do not submit an accepted resignation within 48 hours.
5. Devise two or three forms that a candidate has to fill out between the date of the offer and the date of joining. The purpose is to keep checking their interest in your offer.
These techniques have worked well for me, and I hope they will be useful for you too.
