All scaffolding height is determined by using a height-to-base ratio of 4:1. This means the height can be up to 4 times the minimal base width.
For example, a scaffolding with a minimal base width of 2 meters can have a height of up to 8 meters.
Regarding load, there are three types of scaffolding:
1. Light-duty, which can handle up to 120 kg/square meter
2. Medium-duty, which can handle up to 240 kg/square meter
3. Heavy or special duty, which can handle loads above 240 kg/square meter.

There are more than 30 different types of scaffolds. Scaffolds can be supported, under-hung, hanging, or bracket-supported. Materials used include bamboo, aluminum, fiberglass, and steel.
Common Types of Scaffolds
Common types of scaffolds are tube and coupler, system, and welded frame. Welded frame scaffolds are only for light duty. OSHA standards, which are widely adopted, provide load capacities as already mentioned by hseofficerjsk.
Details on ground preparation, sole boards, base plates, post spacing, bracing requirements, guardrails, and toe boards are all outlined in the standards for light duty and medium duty scaffolds. With prescribed post spacing, the scaffold height in this case can be up to 125 feet.
