Hi, I recently got a job in HR at an IT firm, and I am looking forward to joining shortly. The company hired me on the condition that I would be considered a trainee (as I'm a fresher <2012 pass out> and don't have any experience in the field) and would be paid a stipend alone during the first three months. I'm not aware of my future salary, and I will have to work in the UK shift. I was selected from among many applicants, and I'm pretty confused about what to do. Is it right, at this early stage, to ask about my future salary and whether I would be allotted morning shift timings in the future? If so, how do I bring up the matter to them? Could you guys resolve this matter, please?

Regards,

As a fresher, I suggest focusing on your current role first and gathering experience. As the saying goes: A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Future salaries are decided by your performance. As a rule of thumb, no company likes to lose those who perform and show results. Once you prove yourself, things will fall into place—and in the worst-case scenario (if you aren't given your due), you will then have the option of moving to a better job commensurate with your skills at that point in time.

Also, in general, try not to focus excessively on money for the first 2-3 years of your career—if you want to settle career-wise. Gather as much experience as the job allows you to. If this is only a stop-gap activity, for whatever reason(s), then this may not apply.

All the best.

Clarification on Future Salary and Shift Timings

First 3 months is not a long time. You are a fresher and have no experience. Why do you wish to negotiate? Instead, get a clarification on what will be the salary you will be eligible for after that, whether you will always be in this shift, and what parameters you will need to meet at the end of the 3 months.
