Hi Zipho,
Unlike the past, where Human Resource professionals were passive and simply following the orders of other managers, the HR Managers of today are more dynamic. As you rightly said, HRD has to grow a lot in this techno era. Today, in order to understand the training requirements, you should no longer depend on line managers, etc. The HR Manager should himself know the requirements and design the training program. The future of an HRD professional is to an extent unpredictable, but it is for sure that HRD is on a growth track. Pro-activeness is the word that would drive the HRD Professionals in the future. All the best for your studies.

I agree that the future (and current reality) is that you must be seen as a partner to your business leaders. You must sit at the exec/leadership table as an equal and be involved in driving the business strategic direction.
It's not enough to be a passive supplier of learning and development. Organizations now require the learning function to be proactive and develop new interventions that will contribute to the commercial agenda.

Hi!
HR developers' roles in the future are most important in the new economy. Winning will spring from organizational capabilities such as speed, responsiveness, agility, learning capacity, employee competence, and last but not least, knowledge management.
Companies today face five critical business challenges, namely globalization, profitability through growth, technology, intellectual capital, and change.
Collectively, these challenges require organizations to build new capabilities. Who is currently responsible for those capabilities? That vacuum is HR's opportunity to play a leadership role in enabling organizations to meet the above-mentioned competitive challenges.
The new role of HR developers in the future is as follows:
1. Becoming a partner in strategy execution.
2. Becoming an administrative expert.
3. Becoming an employee champion.
4. Becoming a change agent.
This fourth role is the most important one in the future as the HR developers have the job of building the organization's capacity to embrace and capitalize on change. As change agents, HR developers do not themselves execute change, but they ensure that it is carried out.
Hope this will be helpful to some extent.
Will add more later...
