Dear all, I am working as an operations executive in an edible oil company with 4 manufacturing units in India. I have been in this role for the past 4 months following a job rotation, and prior to this, I worked for 9 months as an executive in HR in the same company.

Understanding the Ideal Role of an Executive

I want to understand the ideal role, responsibilities, and job profile that an Executive enjoys. I am not currently enjoying the work I am doing, and it feels like my future is uncertain.

Please suggest any insights you may have.

Regards, Khem

Dear Khem,

An opportunity never leads to a bright or dark future. It's up to you how you use and experience it. As you mentioned, you were associated with an HR role earlier and have now transitioned into Operations, which shows a lack of guidance towards your career goal.

Decide Your Career Goal

First, you should decide what your goal is in your career life. For instance, if you want to continue in HR, then you should focus on that role/job within the field you are in. You can't achieve your goals every 9 or 4 months by changing your experiences. It's not just about enjoying the current role; it's all about understanding the current job and using the opportunity as a stepping stone for a bigger opportunity in the same field in the near future.

Justify Your Role

Every company has already defined the roles and responsibilities for each position they have filled; all you have to do is justify your role through your performance and by enhancing your subject experience. I would also recommend that you work on communication, as it can change your personality as well.

Kind regards
