Dear all, please share your views and guide me. I have been offered an interview for an HR Executive position in an international BPO. If selected, my job responsibilities will involve admin tasks, conducting the first level of candidate interviews, managing cab responsibilities, and handling the front desk. However, I feel that handling the front desk may not be within my expected responsibilities. Please provide your insights on whether I should accept this job offer or not. Additionally, I am unsure if a BPO job is suitable for me.

Thank you,

Regards,
Anjana

Dear Anjana, I don’t think they are offering you HR Executive post. Cab handling is the part of admin. You can not learn there anything related to HR. Regards, Sanjeev

Dear Ms. Anjana, Thank you for writing here. Basically, the HR segment also takes care of admin activities. Since the reception is part of the General Admin arena, HR is obviously responsible for that. Apart from this, if you are a beginner in HR, this is my modest suggestion to you: never say, "This is not my job." Please feel free to ask if you need any clarification.

Dear all,

Thanks a lot for giving me the right suggestions. It means I am not joining there. One thing I want to ask is whether an operations job profile comes under HR work or not.

None of the work mentioned in the given job description is related to HR. The job profile is basically for an Administration Executive. You have not mentioned your background in terms of qualification and the number of years of experience you have. If you really want to take up this job, the designation can be changed to Administration Executive rather than HR Executive.

Yes, I agree with Archana. This job description seems to be for a Receptionist/Admin role and is not related to HR in any way. Please check your offer letter to see if they have mentioned any HR-related designation. If you are interested in this position, you can proceed and learn something new. However, if you are not interested in the job responsibilities, kindly disregard this offer. There is no need to accept a job that you are not interested in.

Never blindly accept any offer. Consider the scope of your growth first. Have a thorough understanding of what your job profile entails. Decide later. Never forget the time and effort an HR professional invests in recruiting a candidate.

I second Archna; please share your background. This job includes an admin coordinator's responsibilities. Nevertheless, what are your other options? Are you a fresher with no experience? Are you working somewhere and have any other parallel offers to weigh against this?

How big is this organization, and what are the options for horizontal growth? How long do you need to work in one role to move into another? What are the chances for you to shift into other roles?

If you are a fresher and have no other job offers, you can consider this as a stop-gap arrangement. It would give you a sneak peek into the HR processes and prepare you to deliver in other roles. However, it entirely depends on what you have been working on or studying so far.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I have completed an MBA in HR and have 11 months of experience in a company. My current job responsibilities include managing salary, PF, ESI, taking attendance, maintaining records, and occasionally taking on the role of a recruiter. Could you please advise me on whether I should consider changing my job? I am aware that the profiles of HR admin and HR executive differ from each other. Could you please provide more information on this distinction?

Thank you,

Anjana

Hi Anjana, If you want to grow in HR profile this is not a right place. This is an admin executive profile. Sanjeev

What you are doing in the present company is an HR job, but the BPO job description mentioned is all administrative. So, you feel the difference between what you are doing and what you will do if you join this BPO.

As suggested by many, you can look for another job and, till then, stay in the present company as you have just 11 months of experience. Gain some more experience and then look for a new job, a better one, of course.

BPO support functions jobs are not different from other companies, but handling cabs and making rosters is generally not prescribed for female staff for many reasons.

Dear Anjana,

The front desk handling is the duty of the HR department, and a Receptionist is appointed for the same. HR executives do not handle the front desk. If he gives you front desk handling duty, then do not join the same.

Hi Amit, my job responsibilities in the present company include managing salary, PF, ESI, and maintaining records. However, in the new international BPO where I have been selected, they have informed me that I will be working as an HR admin, but my assigned place is at the front office desk. Please provide me with some guidelines as to whether this job is suitable for me as I am not interested in sitting at the front desk of the office. Please help me.

Thanks

Dear all,

I really do not know about you all, but I have seen in most BPOs that cab handling, employees' company accommodation, and company accommodation electricity bills, etc., are taken care of by the Human Resources Department. Companies nowadays do not really like to invest in the Administration Department and also do not come up with vacancies. The member who has asked this question is absolutely right on his part. Being an HR Executive, according to the company's policies, he is expected to do admin work too, which many companies are now following. What needs to be done is the employee should have been briefed about his job description before handing him over his appointment letter.

Hi Anjana, I have gone through the comments. Here are some more:

- Please find out if there is another HR person and what his/her responsibilities are. If he is handling HR, then what you do is purely administrative.
- If you want to have some experience, you may take up this job. At the same time, in your leisure, learn and understand HR functions by volunteering for the same. No one will teach you.
- Also, taking the job will depend on your financial position. Please weigh this.
- As you mentioned, dealing with cabs or their administration is quite challenging, and most of the time, it may not be suitable for a female. The drivers are the worst kind in any region or state, often with criminal backgrounds.
- Depending on your requirements, you may take up this job, but not in the long run.

In case of any clarifications, please revert.

HR Job Suitability: Understanding the Role

If you are looking for an HR-related job and if your qualifications support the same, well, this is NOT the job for you. The job description mentioned above doesn't require an HR background or qualification. Tasks such as facility maintenance, cab-related activities, etc., are purely administrative and reception-related.

An HR executive at a BPO must be involved in either end-to-end recruitment or generalist duties, or handle employee relations. The inputs have been shared; however, the final decision is yours after all. :-)

Hi Anjana, as per my information, BPOs do not have any admin department (I did not find it). All activities work under Human Resources. Please answer these questions:

1. When did you complete your MBA?
2. From where did you complete it?
3. Is this your first job in HR?
4. Do you believe in your abilities and skills? Are they enough now to get into HR?
5. Do you feel that you are mature enough to understand HR functions?

I would suggest you: "This job is a little bit related to HR." Some organizations do not have any admin/personnel department other than HR. Then what do they have? The answer to this is the HR department, who takes care of all the activities, and you are a part of it.

Do this job, and while doing it, try to learn other important functions of HR. Once you feel that this is the correct step or time to make a decision, please revert back.

Dear, what profile are you handling this time in your present company that is related to the core HR profile? But the offer you have this time is an Admin profile. If you feel that the job is satisfactory, then you can join. But if you are not feeling comfortable with the job responsibilities, how will you be able to do the work? If you don't like the job profile, you won't be able to give your best, which you can give to a job that you actually like. Job responsibilities matter a lot. If there is a chance to grow and learn, then only you can think. But as per my concern, you deserve much better, and you will find some other good job opportunities.
