Dear All,
I joined a construction company 2months before as Manager - HR. There was no HR person in this company before i joined. There is one administration manager who used to handle everything. She wanted to leave this company and resigned also. For her position management recurited me.
Now after i joined she doesnot want to leave. Since she is an old employee management doesnot want to loose her. Now iam sitting here idle without any work. Because accounts people make payroll and admin look after the attendance and other things. She doesnot share anything with me and not allow me to do anything.
I cannot complain anything against her because management believes her so much.what shall i do? I am thinking of the changing the job. since its a propritery type of company i cannot take any decision independantly and iam not learning anything simply wasting my time.
Is it good to change the job now? please guide me.

Hi Manju,

This is chiranjeevi, I'm also working in the infrastructure company as a Corporate HR. Handling all the corporate Activities. Manju this is a very good opportunity to prove yourself and to enhance your skills. Every coin has two faces here your should feel happy that half of the admin things are handling by some administrator. Many people will say HR job is a routine job doing payrolls, attendance, recruitment and managing people and activities.

But being a HR manager try to concentrate on the core activities of HR don't get into the admin things. It is easy to do all such things and managing the attendance and doing payroll. The process of doing payroll is also differ from company to company and make a note that the payroll has to be prepared by the HR dept and then it should be verified and approved by accounts. Tell your management that the payroll will be done by you. concentrate on the recruitment's, training, performance appraisals, and human resource development and organizational development activities. This will lay a red carpet for your growth don't demotivate yourself. Feel happy that the admin works are not given to you. guide, educate and motivate your subordinate and involve her in this activities too. so she will be obviously listen to you. explain the difference between the admin and HR work and involve her in Hr activities. she will surely listen to you and good to you.

concentrate on the employee welfare and other activities also you can shine. Infrastructure industry is a very good and booming industry and only few industries will support the us to perform and to do something big and innovative in the field of HR. In such industries infrastructure is one of the best.

this is very good opportunity for you to learn and to perform as you said there is no HR person before you. gather all the info about the company, read the HR policies and HR manual and check whether company is following as per the polices are not. maintain MIS reports. There is hell lot of work to do manju. Attendance, payroll and admin works are nothing and if we do that there will not be any growth for us.

Its been 2 months old to this company it is not suggestible for change coz you will get a remark as inconsistent. so pls change your thought of changing the job. I'll help you if you require any help and what to do n how to do.
This is a very good opportunity for you dont miss it.

Feel free to contact me for any help or guidance.reach me at my email id and my contact number is 7206985077.

all the best..

Dear Manju,
Very Good reply from Chiranjivi. Please note that HR is not part of Admin or IR. IR & Admn are the part of HR. Please start doing the things other than Admin. likewise HR policy updation, reviewing the present systems, suggesting the improvements, strengthing the HRIS, starting assessment system etc. they will reliase your importance.
With best Wishes

Dear Chiranjeevi and milap,
Thanks for the valuable sugestion. i know that infrastructure is a blooming industryBut this company doesnot have any policies and Manual. i know that i have to implement everything.
I dont have much experience in all these things. Now i am feeling that i should have joned a company where there is an HR head so that i could learn in his guidance.
Regards,
Manjula
