Dear All,

I have an admit from LSE for MSc. International Employment Relations and Human Resource Management. I had a few queries regarding the same.

Are jobs available in India post this degree? Is it considered on par with colleges like TISS/XLRI by companies? I already have 2 years of work experience with an FMCG in the Marketing function.

If LSE stands for London School of Economics then it’s as good as elite institutions in Inda.

I can’t see why not? However if you want a job in India, I wonder why you want to study (in the UK) spending so much money!! Why not join IIMs?

Since I specifically want to pursue a career in HR, I am considering schools in India like TISS and XLRI. Should I give them higher preference over LSE because there is definitely a substantial cost difference? Please suggest.

If you have no intention of working abroad, I would suggest that you give preference to Indian institutions and save money. However, if you want some international exposure and keep your options open, then opt for LSE. May I know what's the difference in the cost between the two options including living costs. In the UK, they usually allow students to work part-time while studying. Also, if you want, you will get a visa to work for 2 years after graduation.

In India, the total cost would be around 10 lakhs for the entire course, while in the UK, the cost would be 20 lakhs (including living costs). My concern is that the UK market is not very open now to foreigners after the recession. Another query I have is, if one does a degree from LSE compared to an Indian institute, is there a probability of getting better work assignments and profiles?

I have another query: What kind of jobs (profile) or company profile can one expect after completing this course from LSE? Additionally, are the designations and responsibilities at the executive level or managerial level?

Sorry, Nimisha, I do not know. You can write to LSE or search their website, or ask students who may have completed their course. I think it also depends on the basic degree they obtained, where they got it from, and what prior experience they have.

Hi Nimisha,

If you get a degree from LSE, it's one of the best B-schools in Europe, and there is a campus there as well. Job opportunities are higher in the UK market for a good university degree. My friend is also from LSE; he is working in a good company.

If you have any other inquiries about any university in the UK, you can email me back.

If you return to India, you can apply to MNCs like JP Morgan, IBM, etc. Be mindful of your background before applying in India. For example, if you are from a pharmacy background and have an MBA in HR, apply to companies like GSK, Novartis, or Pfizer in the Indian market. This approach will be helpful in securing a job.

You need to be a graduate with 55% and have 2-3 years of experience in HR with an IELTS score of 7 bands to enter LSE.

Hi Nimisha,

I wanted to check if you have enrolled in the LSE HR course. I am planning to do so, however, not sure if I should go for an MS or MBA. I have 6.5 years of experience in HR and have done my PGDBM from SCDL. I want to get into HR consulting. Therefore, I thought I should get international exposure that would benefit me in getting into any consulting firm.

Please advise if doing an MS from LSE would help me in my endeavor.

I have the same doubts as the first one in this thread. How well recognized is the LSE Management and HR course in India? Is it very difficult to find a job in India after completion? Secondly, if we do find jobs in India, are they at par in terms of roles and pay packages as compared to students of XLRI/TISS?

I wish to do the LSE course so that I have more global exposure, and I want to keep my work options open too. Also, is this course recognized in the USA?

I have a similar query. I am a student of Bachelor's in Psychology (final year) from Delhi University, and I want to pursue a career in HR and Organisational Behaviour.

1. Can my background in Psychology be helpful in any way for admission to LSE? Also, since I do not have any work experience, could this be a negative factor for me during the job search after completing the degree?

2. Additionally, LSE offers two courses related to HR. Are they both of equal value?

3. How does LSE's HR program compare to universities like TISS and XLRI in India?
