Hi!
I am working as an HR executive in FMCG. I have one query related to leave records. If a weekly off falls between two leaves, how will it be calculated - as a leave or a weekly off? For example, if I take leave from Friday to Monday, and my weekly off is on Sunday, will Sunday be considered as a leave day or a weekly off day?
Please help me with this.
Thank you,
Manisha

Dear Manisha,
It is subjective, company to company. Check what your policies say about it. I personally feel it should not be counted towards leave. In my company too, such a weekly off was counted towards leave until yesterday when the policy was modified. So, the best would be to refer to your policies. If you are not able to find anything in the policies, check with your seniors how they were treating it in the past. And as far as possible, try to document the clause for future references.
Best Regards,

Most of the conservative companies, mostly traditional Indian companies, treat the weekly off as a leave. For example, I have experienced this at Dharani Sugars Ltd as well as at Sterling Holiday Resorts. Things are changing now, focusing more on employee welfare and addressing the heavy tax burden on employees. I last heard from these two companies that they removed the old policy. As Harsh says, it depends on the company.

Dear Manisha,
If your employee is daily rated, then his weekly off should not count as a leave. It will be a weekly off only.
If your employee is monthly rated, then your company pays salary for all weekly offs. In this case, his weekly off should be taken as leave.

Dear Manisha,
Strictly speaking, if you are a permanent employee of the concerned company, the weekly off that falls in the midst of the leave you applied for will be treated as part of your leave. If the weekly off falls either at the beginning or end of the leave period you applied for, it will not be considered as part of your leave.

In our company, we have a policy where if the leave is for more than 5 days, then the weekly holidays are counted as leave. If it is less than 5 days, it will not be counted as leave but left as a weekly holiday. This is because we have 5 working days in a week. Moreover, if it's LOP, then it will be considered as leave.

Hi Manisha!
It differs from company to company. As per our company's policy, if any employee takes leave from Friday to Monday and the weekly off is on Sunday, then Sunday will be calculated as leave. Similarly, if Saturday is also a holiday, then it will also be counted. In case he returns on Monday, whether for a full day or half day, there will be no issue.
Hope this information helps you.

It depends on company polices, but as law sunday or weekly of are caculated as leave when EL is taken and not calculated for SL or CL
Hi, Most Indian companies calculate weekly off between two leave as leave, but few MNC’s view it as weekly off. Its entirely depend upon Company Leave policy. Thanks Kamal...
