Dear Seniors,
Is there any law pertaining to appointment letters/terms of employment? This hotel I work for has never given its employees an appointment letter. They have always given offer letters and that's it. None of the employees ever asked for their appointment letter either.
I joined recently, and since I joined the HR department, I got the company to give me an appointment letter for myself with terms of employment, and I make sure that new employees get it as well. But I need to know if giving appointment letters is compulsory or does it depend on the company if they want to give one?
Thanks,
Anu

Dear Anu,
An appointment letter is a crucial part of the hiring process. It is a legal document that plays a role as written proof or confirmation that an organization has decided to appoint a candidate and that the candidate has agreed to work for the organization in return for pay. All the major rules of the organization, terms, and conditions of employment are listed in detail in an appointment letter.

Before the appointment letter, they will give an offer letter to the candidate. An offer letter is simply to confirm whether the candidate is joining or not. The manager will take the candidate's signature for the date of joining. At the time of confirmation, they will provide the appointment letter detailing the terms, conditions, and annexure for the candidate. The appointment letter will also include a brief discussion about the salary.
