Hi, I am Smithaa, HR Division. We get complaints from our workers that the supervisors are not considering their difficulties while working. For example, if a worker handles cleaning green chillies today, her hands get inflammation. The following day, the same worker is assigned the same task by the supervisor, despite our instructions to rotate workers. The management is supporting the supervisor in this matter.

Please suggest how we can relieve the workers' pain without causing conflicts.

Hi Smithaa,

By introduction, I am working as an HSE Manager for one of the leading food service industries in Russia. I just found myself interested in the question you asked in the forum.

You should have an overall risk assessment for your operations, and based on the findings, you should provide appropriate PPE if the hazard cannot be eliminated or substituted.

For your case, what I understood is there is poor management control over the people.

In my opinion, please ensure they are wearing appropriate gloves for the task and encourage the personnel to wash their hands at regular intervals, which will minimize the impact. If not, staff rotation is essential for this task.

Thanks,
Sam
