Change in LWF in Kerala from October 2009
Understand that from October 2009, there is a change in the LWF in Kerala. However, the notification does not specify whether it has increased from the existing rate of Rs. 4 to Rs. 20 or if it is additional to it. Can anyone confirm this and share any document regarding this matter?

There are a lot of welfare funds for workers in Kerala. Among these, there exists a welfare fund for the employees of Shops and Commercial establishments to which all employers who come under the Kerala Shops and Commercial Establishments Act are supposed to contribute ₹20 per month per employee. Invariably, the employees should also contribute ₹20 per month. That welfare fund has been in effect for the last couple of years.

Deduction of Rs 4 as per the old LWF is on a half-yearly basis. The new one for shop employees is on a monthly basis. If you are now covered by the Kerala Shops and Establishments Workers Welfare Fund and the amount already deducted has not been remitted, then you can deduct the balance, contribute the same amount, and pay it. Remember that these are two different welfare funds.
