Dear Friends,

We have the statutes drawn very carefully - the Factories Act and rules to ensure safety at work. We found it not enforced at all resulting in Bhopal. We continue to have similar accidents on an everyday basis, though not as severe as Bhopal, but still killing lakhs of workers every year. Statistics are not available, and if available, they are not reliable. The majority of these victims of industrial accidents are workers. Unless trade unions demand safety and work for it relentlessly, the conditions will not change.

In your industry or to your knowledge, what is the role of Trade Unions in industrial safety today?

I am on a very hot subject, and this is only the beginning of the deliberations. Friends, please share your views.

Regards,

This is my third organization in the Safety field. So far, I have not had any dealings with any trade unions. Therefore, I do not have much idea about this. I am looking forward to learning more about the role of Trade Unions in Industrial safety.

Thank you.
