Revised Minimum Basic Wages as of August 6, 2010
The minimum basic wages were revised on August 6, 2010, for a few sectors by the Deputy Commissioner of Labour. For companies under the Factory Act and residuary industries, the minimum basic is Rs. 4500/- plus Rs. 562/- Special Allowance. The House Rent Allowance (HRA) will be 5% of the basic and Special Allowance.

Please let me know in which category of employment your industry falls, e.g., Engineering, Retail, Hospital, Shop, etc. The rate of minimum BASIC is different for different industries. The rates quoted by Mr. Kapil Devji are the rates of dearness allowance (special allowance) to be paid over and above the basic salary.

Classification of Industries in Maharashtra
In total, there are 64 industries classified by the Maharashtra Government. Basic and Special allowances are classified according to these 64 industries. The only common factor is The Maharashtra House Rent Allowance Act of 1983, which is applicable to all industries, with HRA payable at a rate of 5% of Basic + Special Allowance.
