Hi there,
I hope things are well on your end. Please clarify my doubts here. I have received an offer from a company, and they have now sent me the offer letter, although I am not 100% satisfied with my package. They have stated that it is not possible to provide a higher salary. I feel compelled to accept it as I do not have any other offers and I need to resign from my current job urgently.
However, I am actively seeking another offer with my desired salary package. If I do receive an offer matching my expectations, I plan to accept it and decline the initial offer. I aim to maintain good relations with all employers and I am not inclined to play offers against each other. If I secure the salary I require, I will be content.
Now, the questions I have are:
1) What are the consequences if I accept and sign the offer letter (hard copy) but ultimately do not join the company? What is the typical course of action, and what is the worst-case scenario?
2) I have heard that a company can report to NASSCOM if a candidate fails to join as promised. Is this true?
3) Any additional comments from you would be greatly appreciated.
I am currently in a state of confusion, and your guidance would be invaluable.
Thanks,
Deepak

Dear Deepak,
Welcome to CiteHR.com!
I understand your query and dilemma. It is unethical to "accept" an offer and then decline it. Moreover, the company can sue you for damages, including the cost of hiring.
However, if you want to wait for a better offer, then either you can wait until the 'last date' of the offer or, better still, not accept it. If you are "not the kind of person who bargains with different offer letters to different companies," as you say, then you should not even consider it; allowing greed to linger around you will only erode your self-respect.
Warm regards.

Hi Raj Kumar,
Thanks for your note. Yes, I do not want to bargain with my companies using different offer letters, and I am not doing it. I am simply looking for my best offer. The last day to accept my offer is today; failing to do so will render the offer obsolete. Thank you for your guidance.
Thanks, Deepak
